Exclamation How To Protect Business Information: The Basics
In today’s world, the Internet has undeniably become a huge platform for the development of many kinds of business. Thousands of companies are using this massive network to boost their business and increase their profits, reaching a wide audience all around the globe.

Unfortunately, with the increasing business opportunities there are more and more security concerns everyday. Think about it: back in the old days, all the sensitive business information was kept in a file cabinet only a few people had access to. But today, the important data is stored in computers that have access to the Internet.

With the huge amount of Internet users around, your business’ customers base can grow large, but also your important business information. That is why some measures have to be taken in order to ensure privacy and safety, and to protect this business information from being viewed by the wrong eyes.

Even a single security hole poses a big risk for your sensitive data. And believe me; computers usually have more than one of these holes. Fortunately, there are some precautions you can take to protect business information and keep it safe and secure. Here are some of those protective measures:

 Install a firewall on all your company’s computers. A firewall is your first line of defense, and a major step to protect your business information. A firewall basically blocks undesired connections from the Internet to your PC.

 Always use an antivirus product. There are great antivirus solutions in the market, and some of them are free software. The important thing you need to remember is to keep it up to date. Viruses, trojans and other undesired little data-breakers are released every day, and they spread really fast. Keeping a good antivirus up is the best way to ensure none of them infects your valuable business data.

 Use encryption to protect all your business information. If your sensitive data is encrypted, it will be really difficult to access it for someone who doesn’t know the right password. Even when someone manages to get through your firewall and remain undetected by your antivirus, a good encryption is virtually impossible to break. And, of course, you should use a long, strong password to protect business information; don’t just use your birth date or your mother’s name, as those are easy to guess.

 Finally, you should know that every time you erase data on your computer, it gets logically erased, but physically the data remains on your hard disk. This is because of the design of today’s operating systems. Bottom line is: anyone with experience and some simple tools can recover the data you erased. That is why it is extremely important to wipe that business data, not just delete it. Wiping is a process that effectively erases your business information at a physical level, making it unrecoverable.

Remember, you are the only one who should take control of your business. If you don’t take these basic steps to protect business information, you may wake up one day and find that all the effort and money you put in your business is simply gone. Protect your business information before it’s too late!

RE: How To Protect Business Information: The Basics
The scary part is that most small businesses don't have the experience or common sense to effectively secure all their data. I think for the most part, small businesses are the most vulnerable because hackers and thieves realize that small businesses probably are unaware of the holes in their system which basically leaves open doors for hackers and thieves to come in and steal or toy around with their data.
